-How do Solar Lights work?
Solar lights consist of three major components: a solar panel, the light itself (which is an LED light), and a battery. Solar panels are made of a semi-conducting material, often times silicon. When sunlight strikes the panel the light waves get converted into electric current through a process known as the photoelectric effect. The generated electricity is stored in the battery throughout the day, and is then used to power the LED light at night.
-What are the advantages of Solar Lighting?
Solar lights are the safest and the easiest kind of outdoor lights to install. They require no external wiring. Solar lights have no operating costs. They are the most environmentally friendly form of lighting that you can find. You will never have to worry about the LED light burning out. They will pay for themselves with the amount of money saved on external energy costs.
-Are Solar Lights as bright as Regular Lights?
Solar lights are generally not as bright as standard incandescent lights. When properly measured in lumens (candle feet), an outdoor LED light generates the equivalent brightness of a two watt bulb. However, the type of light generated by the LED light is much more efficient. The LED light is more intense and also has different angles of dispersion than its incandescent counter-parts which radiate in all directions. So, the light generated is much less harsh and glaring, which provides a softer, more natural looking light which can make any outdoor space look radiant instead of blinding.
-How are Solar Lights different from incandescent lights?
Solar lights contain LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes in leu of a traditional light bulb. An LED, generally speaking, consists of a semi-conducting material that emits a light when an electric current is applied to it. LEDs offer several benefits over incandescent lights including lower energy consumption and a much longer lifetime.
-How long will Solar Lights stay on?
The length that the light will stay on depends entirely on the amount of sunlight that it receives. Generally a light will stay lit for 10 hours or more on a fully charged battery.
-How often do LEDs need to be replaced?
The LEDs are not replaceable. Their life expectancy, however, is typically in excess of 25 years if they are being run for 10 hours a night. Thus, the bulbs will not burn out during the life of the product.
-How often do the batteries need to be replaced?
Typical batteries are designed to withstand a minimum of 1000 deep discharges, which is equal to a minimum of 1000 nights. If necessary, batteries are easy to replace and readily available.
-Can I use non-rechargeable batteries in my Solar Lights?
No. Using traditional batteries in solar lights can cause irreversible damage. All of our solar powered products include rechargeable batteries as needed, and we sell additional rechargeable batteries as well. These batteries can also be used as any other rechargeable battery can.
-What if my Solar Lights don't work?
Make sure that the On/Off switch is set to on and the battery receives a full 8 hours of charge from sunlight. The battery can also be charged with any standard rechargeable battery charger. If the light still doesn't work, feel free to contact us with your questions.
-What are your shipping costs?
Rates are listed on the Terms and Conditions page.
-What is the delivery time on an order?
Delivery time is determined by UPS. Regular ground shipments usually take from 1-7 business days depending on the location.
-Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Contact Us if you are interested in shipping internationally.
-How long does it take to process and ship an order?
Orders are usually shipped the next business day after being processed. Processing typically takes a day or two. Orders made Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will be shipped out the following Monday. Please provide a valid mailing address as UPS will not deliver to a P.O Box.
